Samuel Frederick known as Sam Smith was born on May 19 , 1992 in London. A natural singer, Smith began performing as a child.Smith was placed in formal vocal training with a local jazz singer at the age of 8, after his parents heard him sing along to Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love”.His mother, then a prominent banker in London, often asked her son to perform for friends and associates at dinner parties.From the age of 12, Smith’s career was handled by six different managers, with guarantees of fame that never came to pass. When he was 16, his mother was fired from her job for “gross misconduct,” after supposedly spending too much company time on his budding pop career.

I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody – whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat – and everybody can relate to that,” he continued and added that he’d never been in a love relationship before. He said that there was a man he loved that didn’t love him back.At the 2015 Grammy Awards, where he won four categories, he said, “I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys!”.
